Henty Public School will protect and enhance areas for biodiversity conservation for a period of 10 years.

The Fiveways Reserve Habitat Restoration Project aims to foster student's understanding of the environment as an integrated system and develop attitudes and values which are conducive to achieving ecologically sustainable development.

The project is improving the school community's understanding of threatening processes affecting biodiversity, including habitat loss and fragmentation, introduced species, land management and soil degradation. This is being achieved by putting these issues into a local, practical context.

The school community is involved in planning, implementing and monitoring habitat restoration works in White Cypress Pine/Yellow Box/GreyBox Grassy Woodland on the Fiveways Travelling Stock Reserve.

The Fiveways Reserve Habitat Restoration Project is a joint project, that involves a range of community groups and government organisations.

  • Henty Public School – Students, Teachers and the Parents and Citizens group at Henty Public School will carry out on ground works, on behalf of the Landholder, Hume Rural Lands Protection Board.

  • Rural Lands Protection Board - the Hume RLPB will have an advisory and support role. The primary contact for this project is Senior Ranger Allan Scammell.

  • Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority - The Murrumbidgee CMA will provide technical advice, incentive funding for fencing and revegetation works and project management support.

  • Landcare - the Eastern Riverina Landcare Network will have an advisory and promotional role, while members will assist with on-ground works
